Descent

You are an angel sent to re-seal Hell — to fall through all nine circles and freeze it shut behind you before anything gets out. You carry no weapon and no armor, only your Power: a single resource that is simultaneously your health and your score. Dodge everything, and reach the bottom with as much of it intact as you can. The more Power you arrive with, the more completely Hell gets sealed away — your mission succeeds in proportion to how well you survive.

(If there is an issue with missing sound, wait a few seconds or try the windows downloadable version.  I ran out of time to fully debug this)

How it plays

  • Survive 66.6 seconds. A countdown to the bottom of the Abyss.
  • Dodge. Avoid the demons as they try to stop your descent.
  • Power is everything. Getting hit costs a heavy chunk of it. Slowing time bleeds it away for as long as you use it. Whatever Power you have left when the timer runs out is your score.

Theme: Countdown

Descent was built for GMTK Game Jam 2026, themed Countdown. The Countdown theme runs through the game on two levels. Most obvious is the descent itself — a visual countdown of circles remaining as you fall. Less obvious, but more interesting, is the single resource does triple duty as score, health, and the fuel for your time-slow ability. Combining all three creates a trade-off: every use of time-slow has to be weighed against the risk of taking a hit instead. It also means your score is counting down for the entire run, not just at the end — every hit and every second of slow-motion drops your score closer to zero.
